Korrell, Phillip H.
Philip H. Korrell played many roles in the formation and life of the Village
of Bellwood. A few of those roles include:
- He was the first Village Clerk -- holding the job for 21 years.
- He served a fireman.
- Phillip Korrell was a member of the first Board Directors of the Bellwood
State Bank in 1914.
- At one time he worked at his father's blacksmith shop on the corner of
Eastern Avenue and Saint Charles Road.
- Later he opened his own shop, according to John Fippinger, next to his new
home on 28
th
and Saint Charles Road.
As late as 1938 he was operating a partnership with Harvey Boeger in the
hardware store at 2712 Saint Charles Road.
The Korrell home at the
corner of Saint Charles Road and Eastern Avenue grew over the years. The
original part of the structure was used as a roadhouse in the 1880s. It
was a popular stop for travelers of Saint Charles Road.
